The Turkish Institute of Statistics (TÜİK) reports that as of the end of 2022, the number of children and adolescents under the age of 17 in Turkey was 22,578,378, which is 26.5% of the country’s total population of 85,279,553.

Among this population group, there were 51.3% boys and 48.7% girls. According to the UN, in 1970, children made up 48.5% of the Turkish population, in 1990 – 41.8%, and by the end of 2022 – 26.5%.

It is predicted that in 2030 the proportion of children in the population of Turkey will be 25.6%, in 2040 – 23.3%, in 2060 – 20.4%, and in 2080 – 19%. In the 27 member countries of the European Union (EU), the average share of the child population at the end of 2022 was 18.1%.
