The number of foreign tourists who visited Turkey in January 2022 increased by 151% compared to the same period in the previous year, writes the Daily Sabah on February 21.

According to the Turkish Ministry of Culture and Tourism, about 1.28 million foreign visitors visited the country in January 2022. It is noted that the increase in the number of foreign travelers in Turkey is observed in connection with the weakening of measures to combat coronavirus infection, which were introduced in 2020.

Istanbul, Turkey’s largest city by population, was the main destination for foreign travelers, with 791,578 visitors. It is followed by the northwestern city of Edirne, which received 148,016 foreign visitors, and the Mediterranean resort city of Antalya, which received 117,801 foreign visitors.
