Turkey starts new academic year

The first bell has rung for more than 20 million students and nearly 1.2 million teachers in primary and secondary schools.

Students, teachers and parents felt the excitement of the first day of school from the very morning. Last week, introductory briefings were held for preschoolers, 1st grade elementary school students and 9th grade secondary school students. Career guidance classes for students who will enter the 5th grade of secondary school this year and their families will last until September 15.

In preparation for the 2023-2024 academic year, when 20 million 481 thousand students and 1 million 178 thousand teachers will start classes at all levels, the Ministry of National Education of Turkey handed over free textbooks and support materials to students.

Of the 45,000 new teachers entering education this year, 21,560 will work in the Kahramanmaras earthquake region.

The first semester of the new academic year will begin on Monday 11 September 2023 and end on Friday 19 January 2024.
