Hold on a second! Gebze isn’t actually in Istanbul itself. It’s a district located in the Kocaeli province, just east of Istanbul. While Istanbul is a bustling metropolis, Gebze leans more towards industrial and commercial.

Industrial Hub: If you’re interested in the backbone of Turkey’s economy, Gebze offers a fascinating glimpse. You’ll see factories, warehouses, and logistics centers humming with activity. It’s a great place to understand the power of Turkish industry.

Hidden Gems: Not everything in Gebze is factories! There are pockets of historical and cultural interest. The Osman Gazi Bridge, one of the longest suspension bridges in the world, stretches across the Izmit Bay near Gebze. You might also find charming local restaurants serving delicious Turkish cuisine, a welcome respite from the industrial landscape.

Not for Tourists (Usually): Let’s be honest, Gebze wouldn’t be on most tourist itineraries. It lacks the historical grandeur of Sultanahmet or the vibrant energy of Taksim Square. But, for travellers who like to go off the beaten path and see the working side of a country, Gebze could be an interesting stop.

Logistics Base: If you’re travelling for business and need a convenient base near Istanbul’s Sabiha Gökçen Airport, Gebze offers a good selection of hotels. It’s well-connected to the airport and has easy access to the highways leading to Istanbul.

Final Word: For most tourists, Istanbul itself offers enough to keep you busy for days. But, if you have extra time and an interest in industrial landscapes, Gebze could be a unique experience. Just keep in mind it won’t be the quintessential Istanbul experience.
